Halloween Fun in Des Moines Area


Safe Halloween Fun Night — Worried about your kids trick-or- treating through neighborhoods? Send them to this safe fun night, complete with games, prizes and lots of candy. Free. 5-8 p.m. Tuesday. Staves Memorial United Methodist Church, 2747 E. Madison Ave.
Trunk or Treat — Have the kids trick- or-treat at the decorated cars. Teens will also provide puppet performances throughout the night. Free. 6-8 p.m. Tuesday. Mount Olive Lutheran Church, 5625 Franklin Ave.
Day of the Dead Celebration — Students in grades 6-12 are invited to learn about Day of the Dead through crafts and activities. Free. 4 p.m. Tuesday. Forest Avenue Library, 1326 Forest Ave.
Teen Halloween Party — Teenagers are invited to dress in their favorite costumes and come to the library to enjoy dancing, activities and more. Free. Tuesday, 7-9 p.m. Ames Public Library, 515 Douglas Ave., Ames.
Family Night — Come to Valley West Mall for the last Family Night of 2012 and Beggars Night. Enjoy inflatables, crafts, balloons, temporary tattoos and more. 5:30-8 p.m. Tuesday. Trick-or-treat at stores beginning at 6 p.m. Valley West Mall, 1551 Valley West Drive, West Des Moines.
Downtown Ames Trick-or- Treating — Participating businesses on Main Street will be handing out treats and providing entertainment for all ages. Free. 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Wednesday.
Monster Mash Dance Party — Kids ages 2-12 are invited to join the fun with Halloween activities, games, music and a children’s costume contest with prizes. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Free. 5-8 p.m. Wednesday. Jordan Creek Town Center, 101 Jordan Creek Parkway, West Des Moines.
Trunk or Treat — Kids of all ages can gather candy from decorated trunks in the parking lot, then head inside for games and activities. Free. 6-7:45 p.m. Wednesday. St. Mark Lutheran Church Worship Center, 1115 Grand Ave., West Des Moines.
It’s the Great Pumpkin Halloween Event — Kids can wear costumes and get a free photo in the pumpkin patch with the Peanuts Gang and make a craft. Free. 5-8 p.m. today through Wednesday. Bass Pro Shops, Altoona.
Halloween on the Hill — Donate non-perishable food items at The Kathedral, where maps are located. Then drive or walk through Sherman Hill. 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday. 901 19th St.
